Marco Renai, the visionary founder of Men of Business (MOB) Academy, has dedicated his life to transforming the educational landscape for at-risk young men. His journey began in 2011, inspired by his own challenging experiences in school and his volunteer work supporting youth at risk. Recognizing a critical gap in male-focused programs for disengaged young men, Marco mobilized his business community to launch the first Men of Business program.
Over the past 12 years, this initial pilot has evolved into a comprehensive educational institution with two academies, 35 passionate staff members, and 195 thriving students. The MOB Academy, a senior secondary school, empowers at-risk young men by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to lead happy, healthy, and successful lives.
Marco’s Italian heritage, emphasizing family, food, and community service, deeply influences his approach. This ethos underpins the MOB Academy’s holistic model, which integrates education, work pathways, and social and emotional well-being programs. Students are provided with meals and opportunities to engage in real-world experiences, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
In 2020, Marco and his community’s efforts culminated in raising $1 million to establish the MOB Academy. Today, the academy is both federally and state-funded, boasting thousands of past graduates who have benefited from its innovative and supportive environment.
Marco’s unwavering commitment to creating better futures for young men and their families on the Gold Coast has earned him the title of 2024 Queenslander of the Year. His dedication, passion, and innovative approach to education continue to inspire and make a profound impact on the lives of countless young men.
