Showcasing Whitsundays writers at the Local Author Long Lunch

The Whitsundays Writers Festival is excited to announce the speaker line-up for the Local Author Long Lunch special event.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with all our Featured Local Authors in providing them a national platform to share their creativity, their journeys, and introduce readers to their new and important Australian stories,” said Festival President, Karen Jacobsen.

The Festival’s closing event – the Local Author Long Lunch – will be a fitting end to proceedings, a celebration and showcase of the writing journey of some of the Festival’s Featured Local Authors.

This event is open to all and will be held 12:30pm-2:30pm Sunday 8 September at the iconic Whitsunday Marine Club, with the event styled by TP Styling and Events and a sumptuous lunch provided by Coastal Food Design.

Five local authors have been selected to be showcased at the event, in casual conversation over lunch, each demonstrating a variety of genres, writing careers, and connectivity to the Whitsundays.

We will hear from:

  • RACHEL ARMSTRONG award winning North Queensland contemporary romantic fiction author.
  • LORIE BRINK lives in Townsville and writes action-adventure books, with her debut novel to be launched at the Festival.
  • HARRY COLFER is an experienced critical care paramedic and published a murder-mystery, two action-adventure thrillers, and a collection of short stories.
  • A.L. TIPPETT wrote her first novel at twelve and writes urban fantasy novels, with one featuring Bowen’s Big Mango.
  • MONIQUE VAN TULDER is a Shute Harbour resident lifestyle and travel writer, telling the stories of women doing inspiring things, in fascinating places.

“We have fourteen local authors joining the Festival, each with their own amazing, distinct creative talents. We can’t wait for Festival attendees to meet them and discover their stories,” said Karen.

Throughout the entire Festival program attendees will have multiple opportunities to meet and learn more about our Featured Local Authors.

Festival President, Karen Jacobsen, will also officially close the Festival at the Local Author Long Lunch outlining key highlights from the entire Festival and reveal plans for future festivals.

The Local Author Long Lunch is proudly supported by Bendigo Community Bank Cannonvale-Proserpine and the Regional Arts Development Fund, a Queensland Government and Whitsunday Regional Council partnership to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

The Festival also wishes to thank TP Styling and Events and Coastal Food Design for their generous contribution to this local cultural event.
